New International Standard for Urban Resilience Published

In a rapidly changing world, urban areas are becoming more complex and influential, yet increasingly vulnerable to challenges like climate change, technological dependence, and global supply chain disruptions. Urban resilience—the ability of urban systems and their communities to anticipate, prepare for, respond to, and adapt to shocks and uncertainties—is critical for sustainable development. It enables cities to protect resources, foster investment, support enterprise, and empower individuals, communities, and institutions to thrive.

Resilience strategies must focus on risk awareness, prevention, and inclusive participation. This webinar delves into the principles and practices of urban resilience, with a spotlight on the recently published ISO 22371 standard. One of our founding members, Caroline Field, lead author for the standard, presents a roadmap for resilience development, practical applications, and lessons from her work. Guy Felio, complements this with an overview of the broader suite of resilience standards in progress, highlighting their role in addressing social, economic, and environmental challenges.
